As I transition fully into adulthood, my hobbies have become the highlights of my daily routine. They’re not just pastimes but genuine passions that make each day exciting and meaningful. Any free moment I have is spent indulging in these activities, leaving little time for anything else—but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
During my early college years, I was obsessed with diamond painting. It’s incredibly fun and relaxing, though it can be tough on your wrists—hello, carpal tunnel! If you’re thinking about trying it, invest in ergonomic tools to save yourself from future discomfort.
Later in college, I became hooked on reading, and once I got a Kindle, it was game over. The convenience and sheer variety of books at my fingertips turned it into an unstoppable addiction. Although reading remains a cherished hobby, my interests have expanded, creating a delightful battle for my time.
Recently, I’ve rediscovered crochet, a skill I first learned as a child. In the past few months, it has become my greatest obsession. There’s something incredibly satisfying about mastering new stitches and finishing a project. So far, I’ve made a balaclava scarf hood, beanies, a Kindle case, a laptop sleeve, a book cover, a tiny dinosaur, and even a sunglasses case! The joy of creating something with my hands is unparalleled, and I’m eager to expand my skills. Knitting and sewing might be next on my list, though I’ll have to find time to squeeze them in!
I’ve even toyed with the idea of opening an Etsy shop to sell my crochet creations. However, I’m hesitant—turning a beloved hobby into a source of income might take the joy out of it, and I’m not ready to risk that yet.
Another significant change I’ve made is incorporating audiobooks into my routine. While there’s some debate about whether listening to books “counts” as reading, I’ve come to embrace it wholeheartedly. Audiobooks have transformed my commute into an enriching experience. I started with memoirs—usually narrated by the authors themselves, which adds a personal touch—and gradually expanded to thrillers and mysteries. I’m even planning to dive into self-help and non-fiction genres soon.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that hobbies are more than just a way to pass the time—they’re fulfilling, productive, and often create a sense of community. Whether you join groups, watch tutorials, or share your creations online, hobbies connect you with like-minded people and give your life extra dimension.
Here are some hobbies I personally recommend:
- Reading
- Crocheting/knitting
- Diamond painting
- Puzzles
- Coloring
- Jewelry making
- Blogging
- Doing your own nails
One piece of advice: invest in quality tools. It might feel like a splurge at first, but ergonomic and well-designed tools make a world of difference. For example, upgrading my diamond painting pens and crochet hooks has eliminated wrist pain, making my hobby time much more enjoyable.
